つねにものごとを斜めから見る傾向があります。権威とか権力などが大嫌いで、そういうことを好む人を平気でいじめます。また、権力や国家が好きな人のことを単なるおバカさんとみているらしく、密かに笑っていたりするという腹黒いところもあります。これらは、文化人類学を学んでいたころに権威とか権力がある人から相当いじめられたか、文化人類学を愛していたかのどちらかが原因だと思われます。

ブラックな笑いが大好きなことも、そうしたことに関係があるかもしれません。この人に、ごく普通のおもしろいことを言っても、ほぼスルーされるので注意が必要です。この人が好きなのは、俺たちひょうきん族とモンティ・パイソンであることを忘れてはいけません。

この人は、表面的には静かなのですが、ときに暴力的です。また、単純かつ素朴な情動をもっています。それは、わけのわからない行動として表面化します。以前、なにを考えてのことか、家財道具や持ち物をすべて売り払ったり友達にあげたり、捨てたりしたあげくに、海外へと行方をくらましていました。また、ビーズの商いをしたり、呪術師に弟子入りしようとしたりというように、突拍子もない行動がときおり目につきます。そうしたことをしようとしているきざしがみえたら、ぜひ注意してあげてください。

この人は、いつもヘラヘラとしています。自由気ままです。これまでにレーナード・スキナードの名曲フリー・バードを一万回は聞いたそうです。そのせいか、大学の先生だと気づかれないこともたびたびあります。ちょっと年をとった院生あがり、とか、年齢不詳の怪しい人物、と思われている節もあります。研究室にあらわれるいろいろな業者さんに、先生はおられますか？と聞かれることもしばしばあります。そのたびに、いや〜わたしなんですが、、、といって、業者さんが困るところをみて楽しむという、あまりよくない趣味があります。

この人に影響を与えたものはたくさんあります。中学時代はThe Clashを、高校時代はグラム時代のD. Bowieを神と崇め、現在ではPink Floydとオズボーン時代のBlack Sabbathをこよなく愛しています。最近のもっともfavoriteな作品は、Guns' N RosesのChinese Democracy中のThere was a timeでした。ひとりぼっちになったアクセルの昔と変わらぬ声がとても切なくて、聞くたびに哀しくなります。ちなみに、最近買ったもっとも新しいアルバムは、Patti SmithのHorsesです。ですから、カラオケなどに行くと、現代のオシャレな曲をまったく知らず、学生たちとのあいだにたちどころに深い溝を生み出してしまいます。しかし、持ち歌がジュリーの「時の過ぎ行くままに」とか甲斐バンド「翼あるもの」などですから、それもしかたないでしょう。

坂口安吾やサリンジャーからも強く影響を受けています。安吾の「日本文化私観」や「堕落論」「真珠」、「私は海をだきしめてゐたい」「風と光と二十の私と」などを愛読していました。また、小林秀雄「Xへの手紙」、小林秀雄訳ランボー「地獄の季節」、ル・グィン「ゲド戦記」「夜の言葉」、ヘッセ「車輪の下」、カフカ「異邦人」などが大好きでした。映像では、J. ジャームッシュ全般の作品に強くインスパイアされており、「Dead Man」を人類学関連の授業で使うなどの暴挙に出ていました。ほかに、スコセッシ、ベッソン、ヴェンダース、イーストウッドを監督として好んでいます。artistではwarholとwaterhouseを好んでいます。また、モネやルノアール、ユトリロなどの印象派の作品に安らぎを感じています。総じて、古くさい趣味で、時代に取り残された感があります。

この人がやっかいだと思うものはたくさんありますが、とくに教科書的・教条的理解を好みません。そうしたものを過度に振りかざしてこの人に近づくと、とたんに機嫌が悪くなるので気をつけましょう。また、フィールドワークを長く続け過ぎた反動だと思いますが、常識とか社会的通念ですら疑わしいとか、たいした意味はないとさえ考えているようですから、この人こそが一番のやっかい者ともいえるでしょう。さらに、信じられないことかもしれませんが、社会とか社会的集団でさえ想像の共同体だなどと口走り、ときには逆上さえしますので、そうしたときは気を落ち着かせるような配慮をしてあげてください。放っておくと、かならず、面倒くさいことになります。
